Author: Talia Vance
Where I got it: From NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review
Amazon Summary:
“As I step into the room, a silver flash blurs my vision. Before I can take a breath, the world falls away.”
Brianna has always felt invisible. People stare right past her, including the one boy she can’t resist, Blake Williams. But everything changes at a house party when Brianna’s charm bracelet slips off and time stands still. In that one frozen, silver moment, Blake not only sees her, he recognizes something deep inside her that she’s been hiding even from herself.
Discovering she is descended from Danu, the legendary Bandia of Celtic myth, Brianna finds herself questioning the truth of who she is. And when she accidentally binds her soul to Blake, their mutual attraction becomes undeniable.
But Blake has his own secret, one that could prove deadly for them both.
Bound together by forbidden magic, Brianna and Blake find themselves at the heart of an ancient feud that threatens to destroy their lives and their love.
My Thoughts:
Brianna has been invisible as long as she can remember. Her classmates look right past her, no boy has ever noticed her, and she’s only got a few close friends because of this “problem.” Until the night that everything changes – suddenly Blake not only sees her, but realizes that there’s a lot more to Brianna than she realized.
Suddenly things are spiraling out of control, and Brianna has to try to figure out how to avoid being killed, and make peace in an ancient battle that’s been going on since well before she was born.
My favorite part of this book was it’s basis in Celtic folklore – not sure if it’s legit folklore or not, but I found the concept of the bandia extremely interesting, and thoroughly enjoyed the tangled web of their history and relationship with history. Outside of that, I also enjoyed getting to know Blake and Brianna, and their complex interactions. This was a difficult book to put down – a blend of action, romance, and history that kept me turning pages to find out more.
