Book Review: Touched

Title:  Touched
Author:  Cyn Balog
Where I got it:  From NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review

Amazon Summary:

Nick Cross always listens to the voice in his head. Because if he doesn't? Things can go really, really wrong. Like the day he decided to go off script and saved a girl from being run over . . . and let another one drown. Trying to change the future doesn't work.

But this summer at the Jersey Shore, something's about to happen that Nick never could have predicted. He meets a girl named Taryn and finds out about the Book of Touch. Now the path that he thought he was on begins to shift . . . and there's no way to stop things from happening. Or is there?

In a life where there are no surprises, nothing has prepared Nick for what he's about to discover--or the choice he will be forced to make. . .

My Thoughts:
Nick has always lived his life by the script in his head.  If he doesn’t, things go wrong.  Not to mention causing himself and his mother pain while the future “reshuffles” itself.  But one day, he goes off script to save a girl who’s about to get run over, and even stranger things than seeing the future start to happen.

Taryn has just moved to town to learn how to perform “touches” to fulfill an old family curse.  When she meets Nick, she realizes that he’s one of the touched.  In spite of their shared past, they can’t stay away from each other…  Even though the consequences could be more than either of them bargained for.

Touched was an interesting and mind bending book to read, and I can’t imagine the challenge it was to write, keeping tabs not only on one story for the characters, but all the possible stories…  It makes my head hurt just thinking about it!  I loved having a male main character, it seems like that’s less and less common, and it really worked for this book.  Especially since Nick is a misfit because of his ability – he’s a totally likable but weird kinda guy.

This new take on paranormal is definitely worth your time, so if you haven’t picked it up yet, what are you waiting for?
